Obesity Research Shows 3 Crucial Periods

Evidence is growing that people's weight at three periods of childhood may be critical in setting them up to be fat in adulthood, scientists are now saying.

Being born either too big or too small and the early appearance of puppy fat and tubbiness in teenagehood seem to be emerging as important factors influencing how much of a struggle with weight people have as adults, according to experts gathered this week at Europe's annual conference on obesity research.

Pharmacists Can Be Liable for Drug Risks

A pharmacist can be held responsible for failing to warn about a medication's risks, even when filling a doctor's prescription, a Florida appeals court ruled this week.

The 4th District Court of Appeal said the duty to warn about using drugs repeatedly or in harmful combinations is based in the requirement that pharmacists have "general knowledge" of medicines they dispense and the risks they present.

"Virtual Doctor" Makes Day Care Calls

Marilyn Gonzalez worried that her 2-year-old was coming down with an ear infection. Rather than miss work for a doctor visit, the 25-year-old single mother of two dropped her daughter off as usual at the day care and went to work.

Little Jaeda was examined soon afterward by a University of Rochester pediatrician and given antibiotics. Using telemedicine tools wielded by a day care staffer, the diagnosis was done through the Internet.
