Application
for Certification requires AACCA membership in good standing.
A.
For Clinical coders, AACCA also requires one of the following:
-
1 year of coding/auditing
experience
-
completion of a 100-hour medical coding training
program
-
RN-Coder
Boot Camp course completion and certification
Predominantly
RNs, AACCA also admits MDs, PAs, NPs, PTs & OTs, pharmacists, and other clinically-trained personnel to AACCA
certification examinations.
Most
of these individuals are trained at the Associate Degree level, with many
holding Bachelor and Masters degrees in their discipline.
Specific credentials include:
Certified
RN-Coder
Certified MD-Coder
Certified PA-Coder
Certified PT-Coder
Certified OT-Coder
Any
individual holding a Masters degree and above may apply for "Advanced
Standing" status, added to their credential, such as "RN-Coder
Advanced."
B.
For Technical coders, AACCA requires 2 years of coding/auditing
experience or completion of a 100-hour medical coding training program,
and college-level courses in Anatomy & Physiology with disease
process, and medical terminology.
If
certified by another organization or agency, AACCA will waive the
experience/training requirement and allow the Technical Coder sit for the
CMC or COC examination immediately.
 |
Please note: "The 2006 CPT, ICD9, and HCPCS coding manuals are authorized for RN-Coder and
CMC testing thru March 31, 2007. On April 1, 2007, the
certification exams will be updated to 7the 2006 coding manuals.
It is highly recommended that the 2007 coding manuals be used on all AACCA certification exams taken on
or after April 1, 2007." |
