About the AACCA

The American Association of Clinical Coders and Auditors has been founded by a group of Registered Nurses interested in the promotion of RNs as medical coders and auditors of medical documentation for proper coding for Medicare and other third-party reimbursement, and HIPAA compliance.  Certified RN-Coders® and RN-Auditors® work predominantly work with healthcare providers, and some also work for healthcare payers.

For more than 25 years, Medicare and other third-party payers have used the clinical expertise of Registered Nurses and other clinical personnel, including physical therapists, physicians, speech language pathologists – to audit and NOT PAY hospital and medical group claims.  The result:  higher out-of-pocket costs to Medicare beneficiaries and other third-party payers, and a substantial increase in fraud cases.

Registered Nurses desiring certification as clinical coders and auditors, most with college degrees, have an average 22 years of clinical experience.  AACCA is dedicated to the promotion, training, and support of RN-Coders® and RN-Auditors® working with hospitals and medical groups nationwide.

The AACCA endorses and provides continuing education for certified RN-Coders® and RN-Auditors thru its accredited continuing education programs.

RN-Coders® and RN-Auditors® may seek certification with AACCA’s unique certification exams, which provide results by e-mail within 48 hours, the opportunity to re-take certain questions, rather than re-take a whole examination – and inexpensive “pre-tests” are also available.

A member in good standing of the National Organization of Competency Assurance (NOCA), the AACCA also provides ‘grandmothering’ in of certified coders with clinical experience, membership and credentialing at reduced rates.  AACCA will seek accreditation of its credentialing process by 2005.

RNs with graduate degrees are awarded “Advanced Standing” as in RN-Coder-Advanced® or RN-Auditor-Advanced®.

The AACCA promotes RNs seeking to assist hospitals and physicians with Medicare and HIPAA compliance.  AACCA accepts corporate sponsors with the ability to employ and contract with RN-Coders® RN-Auditors®.

The AACCA welcomes membership of any clinical personnel seeking to become certified clinical coders and/or clinical auditors.  Individual membership is $100/year, with a $100 discount for paying for three years: only $200 (like getting 1 year free!).
